curculionidae collection! newbe to the world of coleoptera collection,my first attemp! any comment welcome View AttachmentVery well organized and displayed, but in my opinion you stretched out legs too much and the specimen look less natural. Paul Nah they're dead, why would you want them looking "natural" i think they look just fine. It should be personal preferance anyhow.

Indeed nice greased male... Some collectors should check the ICF before bidding... I guess we will see plenty of greased specimens for sale in the next months... I agree after this dirty specimen sells. We shall see many more being offered.

Well I didn't see the picture/s. But I know that many butterflies that possess toxins making them distasteful to birds will faint death. Is this the case with birdwings? Not so much with my experiences handling O. priamus ssp...

It takes a lot longer than a few hours gor beetles. I find relaxing prior to acetone bath helps to loosen up grease. Leave in acetone from a few days to a few weeks.

Very nice indeed. I too have reared hundreds of field crickets. It all started from a couple if females caught at a light trap. They laid eggs in a mix of coco peat and sand which was moistened. The nymphs grew quickly and soon i had more crickets than i knew what to do with.

Ive marked butterflies in the past for study. Makings were at the base of the forewings with scales rubbed off and replaced with coloured paint. It was only practical to do this at the base of wings without damaging the butterfly's wings.

In the genus Dicranostomus there are only two species - nitidus and monoceros.
Especially because this tusked katydid has only been caught a few times ever, I was very lucky to have been able to obtain the second specie Dicranostomus monoceros (Dohrn, 1888), it differs from nitidus by the females also having (although smaller) tusks (far right photo), where with D. nitidus only the  males have the elongated mandibles.
(sorry for the specimens still being papered) .View Attachment
Are these from Peru also? Check out New Zealand wetas some of them have similar tusks. altho most are protected so no chance to get specimens. just to admire...

I have never collected with UV lights, but for a university project I bought some powerful UV LEDs that are used for curing UV glue. They have a wavelength of 390nm, 20 watt, are so powerful that you can only look at them with protective glasses. But they don't produce any heat. Has anyone ever used something like that? I just tried it in our garden but end of October seems to be too late in England. Im not exactly sure, but my uv collecting globes are 300w and get VERY HOT so perhaps your light is not powerful enough. Best way to know fo sure will be to try them.
