One magical moment for me was in Albania when on the Drenove mountains I found myself surrounded by hundreds of P. apollo macedonicus. It was a spectacular moment.

Hello folks, Last summer I collected some Amata from Sicily but now I have some difficulties to identify whether the species is called marjana or kruegeri. My online search concluded that people use the words marjana/kruegeri interchangeably. Any ideas of whether I should use marjana or kruegeri please?
Thanks Jonathan

Hi Paul, I tried it and it works :-) You just need a good lens for the zooming.

It is a long time I haven't practice genitalia, but it seems that you left too much organic substances and you have to clean the genitalia better in order to only keep the chitin parts that will then become translucid ... Please excuse my english A+, Michel Thanks a lot Michel. Will definitely do. No Paul I don't have any literature on the matter. What I did was a purely home-based experiment using a microscope attached to my DSLR D80 camera through an adapter. Thanks a lot John for the detailed explanation. I will try to follow your guidelines and upload a second photo as soon as I have some time. What I did not understand is the last part of the glycerin. Do you put glycerin on a microscopic slide with the genitalia in the glycerin?

Hi folks, I have been experimenting with genitalia lately and as a first try I went for a Satyrinae (obviously) - Pyronia cecilia male What is your opinion on this slide? What could I do better Which anatomical part did I leave out? Any opinions are highly welcome as your suggestions would help me to develop better slides. Thanks. Jonathan p.s. I'm an accountant and not a scientist so apologies if I have made some basic mistakes.

Hi guys,
A photographer friend of mine found a new species for the country and it was agreed to put this finding in a scientific paper. Are the photos of live insects enough to validate the records or dead specimens need to be set in a museum or somewhere available to the public? What are the standards? Apparently in botany, a photo is enough.
Your views would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi, Is it true that there are US customs and export charges from the US to the EU? I have never heard of such taxes before but maybe they were introduced lately? And is it true that one can only ship internationally through ebay's global shipping program? I shipped ebay items to the EU/US/Asia several times but never used this 'program'. Maybe the US guys know something. Thanks. Satyrinae

I recently ordered from an ebay seller, naturalselection527. When I paid it said it was paid to Bicbugs LLC. That's his company, right? Who runs it now? Yes and in fact when I emailed the seller Victoria (his wife replied) replied.
