I caught two different forms of this in Vietnam at the same place. The male has only one form while the female can have different ones!

Looks like a rather long antenna on that transmitter? wonder how it will affect the butterflies ability to fly?

Here's a list of the butterflies i have encountered in my parents backyard. Some of them i have only seen once or twice and are by no means regular visitors! If you go up into the forest only 5-10min walk away all of these species are pretty common with the exception of T.betulae and P.machaon.
Pieris brassicae/rapae/napi (common) Vanessa atalanta (common) Aglais urticae (common) Aglais io (common) Gonepteryx rhamni (common) Polygonia c-album (from time to time) Vanessa cardui (from time to time) Nymphalis antiopa (from time to time) Argynnis paphia/adippe (from time to time) Aphantopus hyperantus (from time to time) Anthocharis cardamines (a handfull times) Polyommatus icarus (a handfull times) Lycaena phlaeas (a handfull times) Lasiommata maera (twice) Thecla betulae (twice) Lycaena virgaureae (once) Papilio machaon (once)

Decided to put it up here. I reared this species in 2011 as one of my first rearing projects. The first picture is my setup back then. Not very "efficient" in the way that larva wandered off and got lost and cat was very curious what was on the table. From around 40 eggs i ended up with 10 adults. I reared them on Lotus pedunculatus. The whole lifecycle was 35 days! Feeding female with honeywater Egg Newly hatched larva Half grown larva Full grown larva Pupa Newly hatched imago

Here's a few that i reared some years ago. In my area in Norway the blue form is much more common than the brown one. I've only seen 3 brown females in the last 6 years

The favourite i have in my collection has to be Poritia kinoshitai, because of the male with deep blue color and because its endemic to Palawan in the Philippines. I could not choose a favourite all the known species

I'm curious as to why you use those sort of pins (wolf) on your specimens ? Are you unable to get proper insect pins for your specimens ? Do your specimens each have an individual data label ? i had just started collecting again since my childhood, and i was not so into the whole thing with equipment etc, i actually used a fishingnet to catch butterflies. I have been planning to respread and change the pins and also i have data just not printed the labels and put them on. Regarding Koh Samet beeing a national park i had no idae at the time i just follwed what the locals said...

I was in Thailand in 2006. We stayed 1 week at Koh Samed, and i did some small collecting there. I asked the locals first if it was ok to collect and they said there was no problem. We stayed at Samed Villa Resort and there was this tree down by the sea where there was some small flowers on, and there was alot of butterflies visiting there. It was only common species though. Also quite a few big P.memnon flying, both males and females, at the hotel area visiting flowers on the garden bushes.
