Seems like you had a good trip! I was on vacation in Peru in 2009, and also booked a 4 day trip with amazon insects to Tingo Maria. I can also recommend Manuel. He is very friendly and him and his contacts arranged everything!

Thanks. I tried to remove some leaves, i dont know if it worked, but i found atleast 2 eggs the day after. Unfortunately that was all i had time for since i was going home to Norway today, so i put the female in the freezer. Anyway always a next year, and i hope atleast i get the opportunity to rear the 2 eggs i got

Hi Rich
I have some questions regarding the S.pruni. I was fortunate to find a location where they are flying here in Gdansk, Poland, and i caught a female and brought her home alive for ovipositing. I brought with me some twigs of Prunus spinosa and put it in a cup together with the butterfly. 2 days have passed now and not a single egg. I placed the cup in half shadow/ half sun exposed area. Usually when i've used this method the butterflies has started laying eggs as soon as the sun shines. Do you have some suggestions to getting the female to lay eggs? do they need some special conditions? is it best to have twigs of the hostplant with leaves on or without? etc.
Thanks for any advice!

I think you've mixed up here, this looks more like Arctia villica, definitely not caja!

A small update and question! All adults have now hatched except for 2 pupa that has not even started to develop yet. They dont look dead or dried out but rather look like newly enclosed pupas, alittle transparent. I know some northern species of lycaenidae can hibernate twice, but i haven't heard about G.alexis doing so. Can this be the case here? I guess if nothing happens later i will keep the pupa until next year and see what happens then!

When i was in Peru i had with me butterflies back, we landed in New York and had a 10h wait there before we flew back to EU. I had checked off in the declaration that i had insects with me and everything the security guy asked me was if the insects where dead or alive. I told him they were dead and he said it was all ok and let us through. He didn't ask to inspect or anything.
