I'm hoping I'll get some views!
My video shows a trip my daughter and I took up on the Uncompahgre Plateau in Mesa County Colorado. Our find of the day was Hemileuca eglanterina, just eclosed up on top! I hope you enjoy our adventures!

This looks like the old forum, but I can't find the new one when I try and log in???
Should I post here, of go to Insectnet.com's forum? They say they also have a new forum... What gives???
Why am I always sent to the old sites when I try to log in?

Great video. I especially like the montage at the end showing each year and how your daughter has grown up so much. It brings back memories of my families camping trips where we would all bring our nets and go collecting wherever we went. I was in Crested Butte, CO for a week a couple of summers ago, but was not aware of Erikson Springs. I know we travelled that road for a ways out of town for a hiking trip. It sure is a beautiful area. I will have to check it out if we return some day. Thanks chrisw! I try and get to Erikson Springs at least once or twice a year to collect. I have footage for a night collecting video there that I'll try and get produced and posted sometime soon. My daughter grew up there! I had her on my back walking the trails at Erikson Springs when she was about two weeks old! Thanks for the kind remarks! Matt

This is very sad news. What are the alternatives for entomological supplies?
I don't know any other place to find Cornell unit trays... nets, etc.

In 1997 I discovered by accident my favorite spot in Colorado to look for butterflies. Except for the 3 years I lived in Maine, I think I've visited Erikson Springs almost every year for the past 24 years.
I know this video is a little longer than my others, but I hope you enjoy it. This place is near and dear to my heart.

Thanks bobw.
I noticed the caterpillar as well. The Colias that would be up there is most likely C. philodice. The area is too low for some of Colorado's other Colias such as C. meadii or C. alexandra...

I can say with 100% certainty that going with Amazon Insects and Manuel Miranda is the way to go. I've gone with him twice, once in 2016 and once in 2019. Back in 2016 I took my 15 year old daughter and everything was awesome. In 2019 I took 18 college students and Manuel made sure everyone was taken care of. I strongly recommend him. If you can, buy no pest strips for your specimens. Take the chemical, which looks like a thin piece of cheese, out of it's white plastic holder and cut them into pieces to add to your displays. The great thing about no pest strips is they have no smell and are not like moth balls which only deter dermestids, it KILLS them!

Do you have more videos? Do you see rattlesnakes out there? I'll be making more videos this spring. I enjoy working with the camera and software and will post butterfly and butterfly-related videos when I have them finished! I have a couple unedited videos I may throw together for a post in the near future. There are rattlesnakes in the area but I have never seen any and honestly never think of them as I hike around.

The irony is yesterday I was reading a paper on Papilio Indra in Utah. Irony in that I’d read a paper, but young people are driven by video such as yours. You are so hip! Or whatever the word is today. I have always loved Indra, but I only have two of the twelve or so subspecies. I have never found the time or locality to get to California much to look. Several years ago I was in Apple Valley California but had no clue where to look. Once I also checked St. George UT. up Lyle Creek but I was to early in the season I guess. Someday I'd like to find a couple more subspecies.
