Welcome to the Forum, Paul !
As I have very simple taste, this is my favorite Papilionidae : The glorious golden Ornithoptera priamus euphorion !

What a fantastic example of the golden birdwing. I wish they were still breeding them.

I don't have a favourite - I love all of them. If I was really pressed I guess it would be something much less obviously "wow" than golden priamus or the suchlike, maybe good old Papilio machaon. Adam.

For me the most beautiful are some of the ssp in the bianor complex such as these Papilio bianor tokaraensis, the most stunning being the spring form hachijonis. Some maackii tutanus forms are not too shabby either. Attachment Deleted

I cannot singularly name any one species because I think in all fairness it depends on what region of the world your talking about. But, here goes....
North and South America: P. glaucus---subspecies maynardi (Florida's Supersize Tiger -- 6 inch plus wingspan!) P.multicaudata --- huge southwestern summer forms with long multiple tails; becoming yellow-orangish in Guatemala. P.ascanius --- gorgeous creature throughout.
Caribbean: P.homerus (need I say more!) P.aristodemus bjorndalae (Turks and Caicos Is.)
European: P.machaon (pretty wherever it's found) P.alexanor (a lovely shade of yellow + light blue ---awesome color combo ! )
Africa: P.ophidicephalus (a simply regal butterfly)
India and Himalayas: P.krishna ( nice ! ) P.buddah (awesome green / unique) Bhutanitis lidderdalii (breathtakingly different ! )
Orient: P.hermeli / chikae (wow...) P.daedalus (awesome green) P.ulysses (what list would be complete without it ! ) P.maackii (breathtaking variation...)
There were certainly other notable runner ups however, I tried to keep in mind species that give that "shock and awe" presence.

Some Hippocrates females of the summer form and very dark, large and impressive, much more so than the smaller spring form.

Attachment Deletedne of the most interesting species for me is Graphium macleayanus (Leach, 1814) Attachment DeletedThe other is Graphium stresemanni (Rothschild, 1915) and... Graphium weiskei (Ribbe, 1900). I know they have the same appearance, but still they are very nice to see. Many greetings, Patrick

Welcome to the Forum, Patrick !
I have met Graphium weiskei live in West Papua, it is a very impressive species. It flies extremely fast in the forest, you see a black flash with 2 violet lines... striking ! It is very hard to catch in flight, far more easy when they are mud-puddling.
I guess locals raise or bait it to be able to provide so many !

I have zero interest in adult specimens, so for larvae (species reared or seen), my "visual" favorites include . . . Graphium codrus (Sulawesi, seemingly on Hernandia): Papilio euchenor (Papua New Guinea, on Euodia): Papilio pilumnus (Mexico, on Litsea): My own images are as yet unscanned Kodachrome slides, so please excuse these Internet photos.
