mongst the European papilionidae, of which there are few species this is one of my favourites that sometimes hardly gets a mention, undeservedly so, Zerynthia rumina, beautiful, delicate colours.

I must agree with you, this species is extremely beautiful - and needless to speak about the honoratii aberration - although it is quite common in South west of France and Spain, that we do not always pay enough attention to it
Z rumina is definitely much attractive than Z polyxena or Z cassandra

Very beautiful specimens, and also very interesting , i also more than 2 species but these 2 are top of the list, I saw those in an old book when I was young and that was the moment i also started to get more interested in butterflies .

Those Papilio machaon aberrations are very special. Nice to see actual natural bred specimens.

My specimen emerged from one of a large number of pupae from machaon stock that I was sent by a British butterfly farm of unknown origin somewhere in Europe. There was no attempt whatsoever to artificially induce the aberration. A few years ago I bred machaon from Modena, Italy, and after a number of generations several semi-melanic aberrations emerged. I believe these were probably due to inbreeding. Here is one of them soon after emergence. Attachment DeletedAdam.

Mine is from East Germany - where is yours from ? - only somewhere in Europe. Too bad you couldn't get the exact origin.

I collected this one in the Massif Central, close to St Etienne. It has some 'sachalinensis' features, but definitely not a dark as yours Adam.

It's tough...I really love the whole family Papilionidae..but my favourites could be:
African region:Papilio pelodorus European region: Iphiclides podalirius;Papilio alexanor American region: Papilio indra Asian-Indoaustralian region: Papilio lampsacus, all the birdwings, Cressida cressida..
PS: Is Cressida cressida related to the Parnassius group?
