This is one of my Lucanus boxes, haven't worked on them in quite some time, and as such some revision/reordering is required, when I ever make it back home. My favorite specimen in this must be the male of Lucanus dohertyi, which is out of Boman's collection, and which I got at the Frankfurt Insect Fair in 1998. And, yes, you can see that I do like Lucanus elaphus quite a bit. Cheers Ben

Thanks, Lucanus are definitely one of my favorite genus. Most species missing from my collection are really hard to come by, and I think it is almost impossible to ever get a complete Lucanus collection. Let's see where I can get. This is one of three boxes, and I have papered material to start a fourth one.

Very nicely done box indeed poisonarrow ! I had a job some years ago at a large natural history museum near my home. In the Division of Insects where I worked we had a nice collection of Lucanidae which had been purchased by the museum in 1955. It was the 100,000 piece personal collection of Dr. Eduard Knirsch. He was a dentist from Vienna, Austria and a beetle collector who specialized in Lucanidae from North Africa and the Middle East. Though, of coarse he still had much from other parts of the world. It was pretty much the nucleus of our Lucanid holdings. Don't know if his name is well known in Lucanid circles but, he sure had a nicely done whopper of a collection !
