I've spent most of the summer converting to a new photo system, with much effort needed for camera testing, lens testing, etc. As part of the latter, I've done a few "artistic" specimen photos using isolated focus, allowing most of the image to blur. I rather liked the results, and here's a sample. Many of my friends aren't aware that I dabble in Coleoptera in a small way; whereas my interest in Lepidoptera is mainly scientific, I also accumulate a few beetles now and then, simply because I find them interesting or attractive. This is a drawer of Eupholus weevils from New Guinea. Photographic info: Canon 5DSR camera; Zeiss 135mm Apo Sonnar lens at f/2. eupholus drawer by D B, on Flickr
