I came across this forum on a hunt to find any information about my Great Grandfather, Walter Copley, 1862-1935, of England. His last known home was in Luton, on Old Bedfordshire Road.
Walter was a hobbyist entomologist and taxidermist, he was an Engineer and professor by trade.
My mother and grandmother remember in great detail his collection room and many international guests who studied (he wrote papers and was interested in language studies) and traded with him.
He traveled extensively building a collection of specimens.
Unfortunately, those collections disappeared along with his estate when the home was reported to have been robbed during his wife's funeral in 1947.
Given how involved he was with his passion, I was hoping to find a record of him on historical membership lists, writings or even records of his specimens anywhere in case they were sold rather than destroyed but have come up blank.
I thought it would be worth asking in a group like this, in case someone may have some relatively niche information that could be helpful!
