Have you ever sat near a mud puddle party and observed the interaction and personalities between the visitors. An if you could "imagine" the conversations and one liners used among these winged folk --- would they really be so different from us?
Pieridae are the regular joe's at the party. There's lots of em' and they tend to be the real "drinkers" of the lot. If , and when they are startled they're usually back in about 5 minutes bellying up to the bar again. The way they see it --- "When the bar is open and (free)--- the ladies can wait !
Papilionidae are the nobles among the crowd. They are eloquent, well mannered, a bit stuffy, and occasionally brash. They come down from above broadcasting loudly "Look out below I'm coming in for a landing". Sort of announcing themselves. And on occasion when somebody gets a little too close for comfort one can almost hear them exclaim "Oh do stop rubbing up against the tails ole' boy". I wouldn't want the ladies passing me by because of a set of ragged tails you know !
Nymphalidae are the "speedsters " of the clan. They always seem frazzled, in a hurry, and on caffeine of flower. They talk quickly like some auctioneer or some commercial spokesperson telling you about the side effects of some drug. "Man, I gotta get a quick sip of this go-go juice". Those other guys keep trying to steal my new girlfriend and I'm running myself ragged chasing them off ! And, with a quick "Later" --- off he goes.
Lycaenidae along with other assorted small butterflies are meek and soft spoken generally. They tend to show up largely un-noticed as they prefer to "fit themselves in amongst the revelers" so as not to be any bother. And when they leave some loudmouth sulphur invariably exclaims "was somebody just here --- I felt a draft !".
The ladies that do show up are usually "dainty " in their repose and always ready for a good conversation or gossip. If you listen carefully you can almost hear one lady say to another "I simply love the flavor of this mineral salt tea today"; don't you?
Hope you have enjoyed my amusing tale....
