A good friend of mine accidentally found Parnassius mnemosyne being on the wings already in Germany. On the 27th of April 2020 there were already a few males flying around, location is on the Swabian Alps, South Germany near Muensingen, 700m above sea level. This is not only an extremely early start, but also almost impossible. The normal start of Parnassius mnemosyne is around the 25th of May, and the peak is reached around the first of June. In 2018 there was also an early start around the 10th of May, and in literature the earliest starts are around the 15th of May, not a single one in April. April is just another two to three weeks earlier than the earliest starts.
Have you guys in Europe seen similar things these days? Do we have a very early year? It didn't rain a single in April, between the 25th of March and 29th of April, it was always sunny, but sometimes below 0 degrees at night, so not specifically very warm, just no rain and extremely dry, perhaps that induced the early emergence of mnemosyne?

I will check out a few other locations around Southern Germany, once the weather gets better again, but after a few days of rain I am sure more mnemosyne will emerge! radusho where are you during this crisis? Any special plans to look for apollo locations around your area this year?
