I collected these two specimens in Southern Ontario near Toronto on April 5. I'm sure they are common species but I don't have any reference book to find what are they. Paul

Hey Paul, I'm sure you know these two as far as their (family level) which is where I am at. However at genus or species that would be tougher. There are an awful lot of those brown ones... The one on the right looks kind of distinctive but, again it's all about having the literature ( which I do not have either).
There was a book which came out just a few years ago on North American beetles which was pretty decently pictured with lots of stuff. It was the size of a High school (Chemistry) text book and was only priced out I think at around 50-60 USD. I'm sorry, I do not recall the author or title but, it was discussed on a thread on the other forum. Maybe, look under the Coleoptera section to find its reviews or perhaps the Books section as a second option.
I encountered 2 copies of this book just once at my local Barnes and Noble bookstore a few years back. Of coarse, I was caught off guard at finding it and at that moment simply did not have the money on me to purchase it. By the time my payday came around I ran back to the store right away and of coarse both copies were gone.
As the saying goes: Day late or a dollar short !
Anyway, I'll bet if you can find a copy reasonably priced you may at least find your answer at least to the genera level. Best of luck Paul.

Blister beetle is Meloe genus and maybe impressus species but there are many very similar species.

Greetings,
I have some specimens in my collection of what appear to be the same Elateridae as in your image. I have the name Ctenicera cylindriformis on them, but I believe the current name is Sylvanelater cylindriformis. Having said this, I am not a specialist in Elateridae and did the ID's myself, so they could be wrong.... but it might be a place to start.
Cheers! Bandrow

Thank you Bandrow.
Yes I found also an ID on bugguide.net and it definitely looks like Sylvanelater cylindriformis. Oil beetle I think might be Meloe angusticollis, thoughts?

Greetings,
As for the meloid, I can't be of more help. All of my Meloidae are in the possession of a specialist who is IDing them for me. Once they return, I will be donating them all to the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh, where I work as Collection Manager...
Cheers! Bandrow
