About butterflies in Iran, see this webpage: www.lepidofrance.com/parnassinae-de-printemps-dans-louest-de-liran/ "Fortunately, the logistics were perfectly ensured by my Iranian guide / driver, who also holds a PhD in entomology, English-speaking and very good knowledge of the country (site: insectsofiran.ir , contact: insectofiran@gmail.com). He proved to be a determining factor in the success of my investigations, a tireless driver and guide motivated by the discovery of butterflies." L. Good to see a strong positive recommendation from the ALF. I was considering deleting this commercial post, since they are not normally allowed on the forum. As a result I decided to allow this one, as jmg posted his reply before I saw the original. Adam.

Adam Cotton : "Good to see a strong positive recommendation from the ALF. I was considering deleting this commercial post, since they are not normally allowed on the forum. As a result I decided to allow this one, as jmg posted his reply before I saw the original." Commercial or non-commercial, a good entomologist guide is very useful in the field. It makes it possible to avoid risk areas (for example, in Latin America those where drug traffickers are rampant), to arrange things with local authorities (police or military) and above all to save a lot of time by going directly to the right biotopes. Of course, these services deserve remuneration! When I stay in French Guyane, I don't need a guide because globally the butterflies are well distributed, the forest is omnipresent and the forest lodges with entomological vocation are easy to access by car or small plane. On the other hand, in Colombia or in Benin (in this very deforested country to know where some scraps of forest persist!), the guide is really essential. Even in Laos where forests and butterflies abound, a good guide allows you to go directly to where less common species fly. And according to the opinion of my friend Laurent Voisin, this is also the case for Iran. In addition, for Europeans who can only devote a few days (or even weeks) to an exotic trip, the guide's services for car rental, canoes, etc. (reserved in advance) are still a significant time saver. Without even raising the question (sometimes delicate - as in Benin) of the quality of hotels and restaurants. Or the possibility of finding tents and hammocks on arrival without having to transport them from Paris. Or even have equipment on site for night collecting. So these are trivialities but it may be relevant to remember! See these pages : www.lepidofrance.com/en-colombie-avec-fredy/collector-secret.proboards.com/thread/3157/back-colombia www.lepidofrance.com/quelques-rhopaloceres-communs-du-benin/ Here, we will find with the relic forest of Houéyogbé a good example of what I wrote above. Who would have the idea, without the assistance of a guide who is knowledgeable about the country, to go to this tiny piece of forest surrounded by immense deforested and cultivated stalls? However, it is an exceptional biotope! both from the point of view of diversity and abundance.

I agree entirely, but people are not supposed to advertise on the forum, and it is impossible for us to know who is reliable and who isn't.
Adam.

We could have a special section for butterfly guides and services already used by members? That would be really helpful, I had looked at insectsofiran a few times, but never knew that they are indeed so reliable, now with the input of our fellow member, I do consider going there sometime with them. Would be great to collect more resources like that.

That’s a good idea but I don’t want commercial links on the forum and I don’t want people to send 3000€ to a doubtful guide...
The best idea would be to create a guide page per country outside of the forum with only reliable guides.
I will work on it, i know most of the good ones
Please send me in PM your trustful guide experiences

Where are we in the construction of this page dedicated to entomological guides?
