how do you rename the link, I tried it and it took me to the ebay home page, hence the edit that I had to do? It's a strange specimen as it looks like a cross between Louisa and Howqua with the very light creamy margins and forewing apex which is usually white in Louisa. also the shape of the hindwing sub marginal black markings resemble fruhstorferi. fruhstorferi and howqua from Tam DaoI do believe Louisa is found in China but I've not seen any, I would think they are similar to mathilda as those from Laos and N.Vietnam would be the nearest colonies to China. "how do you rename the link ?" Just use the "link" button to shorten your url links or give them another nameFrom time to time, I shorten the links in the messages to make the forum more beautiful (it also helps the forum in terms of google search efficiency)

From time to time, I shorten the links in the messages I had been wondering why you were editing other people's posts.

A forum with the right number of "h" in Stichophthalma is a forum with a great future !

unfortunately both spellings are now embedded in my spell checker so the occasional one gets through.

I believe I have been able to solve this identification problem, the bad news is it looks like I've uncovered another possible species missing from the collection. I believe this is stichophthalma le ( originally stichophthalma neumogeni s.sp le) from hainan island. Moved from a sub species of neumogeni on account of size, being much bigger, and markings resembling fruhstorferi ( which is very obvious to me ) also occurring on this island is stichophthalma howqua bowringgi and stichophthalma nourmahal chuni.
Don't suppose anyone has a contact on hainan island, or are we about to see an influx on eBay the scale we've seen with the Vietnamese specimens??

Jacques Porteneuve, papalidar, found me some Delias from Hainan few years ago. You should contact him, he may have a contact there.

Strangely enough Li Jingke sent another email this morning offer specimens from Hainan island ( sphingidae though ) so he obviously has a supplier there but I have a feeling if I email him he'll suddenly have 300 exs to offer me that never show up.
I have contacted the author of the paper " notes on the genus stichophthalma C. And R. Felder, 1862 from Hainan island, China" which is on line, copy and paste the title, he has been back in touch today, he is going to send me the original paper with colour plates when he returns from the current field trip he's on untill August. He has however sent me 2 photos from his trip, one of stichophthalma fruhstorferi and the other of stichophthalma le underside from Hainan, similar ground colour to howqua but with characteristic markings of fruhstorferi.
I will also send a message to papalidar, you never know.

Or he has Sphingidae from somewhere in SE Asia that he wants to sell, so he says they are from Hainan, which is equally if not more likely, so beware.
