During my trip to Madeira I obtained many eggs of this endemic species. The specimens has been hatching for a while now. I had male and female that did not hatch properly, so they were not suitable for collection,so I decided to try pairing in captivity. I kept them in a cage where other specimens are hatching (30x30x30cm) and fed them with honey water. After ca. 5 days after they hatched a male started the rituals, but female was not in mood. After two days of tying today I finally got a pairing. I use a lamp to stimulate adults to hatch from pupae and this factor seems to be crucial in stimulating the mating ritual. Enjoy! Male (on the left) is moving up and down with antenae-some kind of foreplay, then he is rubbing his forewings with feromone scales on female antenae-seduction and at the end he is trying to join his abdoben with a female. If it does not work, the whole process repeats. streamable.com/fzqdj#
