Hi all. I am new to this site so I apologise for my inexperience. I have a very old wooden collectors cabinet with a James Gardner badge on it. There are 15 drawers and a large variety of butterflies and moths. I just wondered if there would be any interesting in it, as I feel it is wasted on me and is just sitting unappreciated. How much ought I ask for it? And where would I begin to advertise it please? I have photos available if I can work put how to add them! Many thanks, Paula

I think people will be able to advise much more accurately if you can post some photos.
The best way to post photos here is to join imgur.com, it's free! After you sign up and log in to the website you will see your user name at top right, or a green circle with the first letter (they just changed it). Hover your pointer over the username and a drop down menu will appear (seems you have to click it for the menu to appear now), then click on "images" and you will see a green "add images" button on the right, click that and upload your images there. Next click on the image you want to post here and you will see it on the left with a link menu on the right. Click "Copy" next to the link labelled "BBCode (message boards & forums)", then just paste the link in your post on the forum in the place you want the photo to appear. This way you can post as many photo links as you want inside a single forum post, and also it doesn't cost the forum owner anything in hosting fees (unlike if you upload a photo as an attachment).
Adam.

I am sure that Nomad can be more specific to this cabinet and collection I just want to say that it was a very nice collection of British/European butterflies and moths once long time ago. This collection should be a reminder that we all have to find a place for our long life passion before we depart.

It looks to me to be a pretty solid and decent antique insect cabinet. The drawers from the front look nicely finished (still); with perhaps 3 or 4 in need of re- finishing. The glass is intact and the door seems to close snugly. The drawers themselves will probably need some fresh paper (lining) installed throughout. There are likely several places in Britain which specialize in re-furbishing such antiquities. The cost probably runs the gamut of light restoration to full blown restoration (depending on your pocketbook). These are very popular among older collectors in Britain. I have no idea what a cabinet such as this (in need of restoration) will fetch. Hopefully, someone with the cash to restore it will do so and bring it back to it's former glory. Well, worth it in my humble opinion. I love these cabinets... An added plus is the fact that whomever buys it will probably be able to salvage some of the specimens and maybe wind up with a few select drawers of Mr. Gardener's collection. Very cool indeed.

Watkins & Doncaster pay good money for cabinets like these, refurbish and then sell them. Their website is www.watdon.co.uk/. Adam.

Yes certainly an old Gardner cabinet. I Seem to have missed the later posts in this thread until now. I am afraid dermestids have been busy in some of the drawers, looks like an old collection that was perhaps self caught. The Cabinet looks solid enough and probably one of Gardner's better ones, needs some work but as Adam mentioned, you could try Watkins or perhaps sell privately.
