Hello,
My name is Bart and I'm from the Netherlands (excuse my English). I'm 34 yeard old and work as a pathologist' assistant.
As a kid I was always fascinated with insect collections like the one they had at our zoo. Especially the butterflies. But I never did much with it. Untill recently, when I passed a shop in Amsterdam, where they sold framed butterflies. Ever since I saw them I wanted to build/ buy my own collection. The only problem was... they asked almost 250 dolars (220 euro's) for a butterfly. So I decided to search the internet and found out that entomology is not only for zoo's but that you can do it yourself at home! So I found a couple of adreses in Thailand and Australia who sell butterflies and preparing my first order. I am planning to buy a couple already in list to use as a model for starting framing myself.
I am completely new to this world, so I hope to learn a lot here.
Thanks!

Welcome Bart,
Please feel free to ask questions about techniques in the "How to ..." section.
I recommend you start by buying some very cheap specimens to use as trials for spreading then progress to more expensive specimens once you have mastered the basics. Remember also that data with specimens (where and when caught) is important.
Adam.

Hello Bart, welcome to the forums. In the suppliers section you can also find European dealers. You will have less trouble with customs then. The butterflies you saw for $220 you can find for $5 to $10 there. The ones in the shop are always very expensive to attract buyers, but the butterflies are bred and not that costly.

Thank you all.
I indeed found the same butterflies framed for 30 euro's in the netherlands, and unframed for less than 1 euro in Australia.
I will look around the forum for suppliers and techniques!

By the way. I was looking at the dealers sections and can anyone tell me what so special is about this site? www.insects-more.com/Not sure what you mean. He is a famous German insect seller, providing both common stuff and huge rarities (those specimens in the homepage with high prices). Highly recommended as all of our sponsors : www.collector-secret.com/insect-suppliers

They are specimen that are difficult to come by. A butterfly is not just a butterfly. There is different species that can be easier or harder to catch. There is countries where the export is simple, and other where it is difficult. So lots of things will go into that price.
