I'd really like to see some member post some photo's of Doxocopa nymphalids from their collection. Prepona and Agrias always get all the attention and deservingly so however, their half again sized relatives should not be overlooked .

Well, it has been over 2 years since I first posted this thread to no avail. So, tonight I will post the only extant Doxocopa species which I have in my collection. I collected this bright little fellow while in Bolivia (May)1989. He would be the only one which I would encounter in 10 days of collecting there. This genus of butterflies is spectacular in their shimmering structural colors. The only other butterflies which supersede these in sheer extravagance are the Prepona/Agrias and of coarse the Morpho's. Still, they hold their own against everything else. There are species even better than this one in both Central an South America. As evidenced by the wing shape these fellows are fast, territorial, perching (seemingly just out of reach), active butterflies. It is tough to get good ones and they certainly keep a collector "planted" until they either fly off or are captured ! I have no idea as to the species but, he will always hold a special place in my heart and memory !

This is Doxocopa cyane possibly ssp.vespertina,
Unfortunately I didn’t collect any of Doxocopa species during my two trips to Central and South America therefor nothing to share 😞

Alright deliasfanatic 👍👏
Now that's what I'm talk'in about !
Simply superb... Like I said in my above post these fellows hold their own against just about everything else.
Of curiosity, where does that one stunning specimen which is sapphire blue in (column 2 / #5 down from top) come from? Species name? Also, the 2 in column 5 / #4&5 brown patches on forewings + structural colors? Quite stunning as well...
