I have several species of Bicyclus that I have not been able to identify... can anyone point me to a good revision (or something similar) that would help me with this genus? I caught this 5/VII/2014 in Nebobongo, Haut-Uele, DRC in a very swampy patch of forest. Perhaps... B. hyperanthus B. procora B. uniformis
or something else. I'm really not certain.
Thanks is advance! Tom

There was a monograph in french by Michel Condamin but I think it was published in 1968 (I am away from home), and therefore prbbably out of date. Then the second edition of d'Abrera is probably useful !

Tom,
Back home now, so I can tell Condamin "Monographie du genre Bicyclus" was published in 1973 ! I checked in d'Abrera, second edition, part I, and found your specimen is probably Bicyclus milyas Hewitson that flies from Senegal and Gambia to Ethiopia and northern Uganda.
A+, Michel

So, now I'm not certain this is the correct species, since I caught the specimen in a very wet patch of forest... did you noticed any other similar species?

No Tom, B. Milyas was the only one close to yours. I checked with the 3 specied you mentioned, but none correspond ! The problem in d'Abrera is that not all specied are represented with male and females both recto and verso ? I sent an email to Steve as we will get the right identification much quicker A+, Michel

Wow, thank you! Thanks Steve for me too please! (And, yes the number of Bicyclus species in DRC is amazing... I still have another 10 or so species to identify. ) Can we give Michel some kind of award for going out of his way to find an ID for this?
