Hello, I do not know much. I saw this bug and I thought it was beautiful. I would like to know its scientific name. Thanks! Attachments:

It is a species of cicada (I don't know which genus), but it really is impossible for someone to identify it to species without knowing where it came from.

Thanks Adam! I'm not sure where it came from, though. Is it possible to narrow it down to a few species, based on appearance alone?

Sorry, I can't help as I know very little about cicadas. Perhaps there is an expert here who can help.
Adam.

I realize this was a while back that this was posted, but I believe this to be Cicadetta montana.

Even knowing the location of the insect, cicada identification is extremely tricky and difficult, often impossible my images. Many times, the male song must be recorded for allow an ID.
