Pararge aegeria tircis is a common Satyridae in European woods and garden.
It has a very territorial behaviour attacking all butterflies that may approach its tree.
I am particularly happy of this shot, this specimen was resting on a yellow leave on the ground and let me approach with my 180mm macro lense :

The Speckled Wood, Pararge aegeria tircis is a pretty Satyrid and is one of the few common butterflies in England. Yesterday there were some fresh examples on a wooded area on top of a high chalk down. On the Down were several of the large caterpillars of the Fox Moth Macrothylacia rubi shown below. femaleMale.
