Nice idea about the introductions. Also, good idea to leave out a "Trading Reports" section, that will help keep things more civil than insectnet is right now. I am Alex Harman, many of you probably recognize the name from various facebook groups (I am also the same Mantisboy from insectnet). I am a high-schooler, and an avid insect collector. While I collect virtually anything I can catch, and try to purchase whatever insects I find striking, rare, or unique, some main passions of mine are gloss swallowtails and leafwing butterflies. I know considerably more than the average high-schooler, and much less than the majority of my fellow collectors, and I am always ready to learn. Unless there is some way to upload pictures from my phone, I will probably continue to use facebook groups for most of my insect pictures out of convenience, but I will try to stay fairly active here too.

I didn't see the trading reports right away, but having strict rules in it will solve most of the issues.

I have just joined too. Many people will already know that I study World Papilionidae, and I look forward to joining in with friendly discussions here.

Nice to have been invited to this new forum !
I am a 58 years old antiquarian bookseller specialized in entomology, and personally a book lover.
I have a large personal library dedicated to butterflies (especially Africans), but not only …
I use to collect and study the Genus Cymothoe (African Nymphalidae), but decided to donate my collection in 2004 to A.B.R.I. (African Butterflies Research Institute) in Nairobi, Kenya, which is the largest african butterflies collection in the world, with its Director and good friend Steve Collins.

Glad to see so many authorities and great collectors among our first members!
Let's present myself for those who don't know me. I am 32 years old and have been collecting butterflies for 25 years now (nearly all my life). After many years collecting all kind of rhopalocera, I specialised myself about 10 years ago in the study of the Delias genus, the largest genus of butterfly, fascinating for its beauty and its complexity. I have had the pleasure to make many collecting trips in Asia and Oceania to see them "live".
I am also a "geek" (I like html codes and so on) so I am also webmaster of few insect websites like Delias of the World or Collector-Secret. These websites help me encounter many interesting people in the Insect world (other sites webmasters, sellers, collectors and so on)
Some friends have asked me to create this forum, I hope it will be a special forum and a success.

Oooops,
I have post my first subject before seeing this thread !
So, I am Stéphane, French entomologist, from a lost department in Center France : Creuse (here, we have more cows than inhabitants !).
I am particularly interested in Cetoniidae from the world (but mainly from Paleractic and Asian areas).
Hope this forum will grow and become one of the best !!
Regards,
Stéphane

Hey folks! Tom here! Ummm... by way of introduction, I'm 26, Canadian and have a beard which, I'm told, gets a bit unruly at times. I live and work in the NE end of D.R. Congo (though I'm sitting in snowy northern Ontario at the moment... and missing Africa immensely). I collected butterflies as a kid, but was never too serious about it. Last September I moved from Canada to Bunia, in the Ituri region of DRC, to work with a church-run shelter for street boys. It became almost immediately apparent that if I didn't find something interesting to do during my spare time I'd go a bit loopy. So, I've jumped headlong into the hobby and am known around town as "that white guy with the net" or "the butterfly guy." ... come to think of it, in their minds I have gone a bit loopy... oh well. Anyways, I'm looking forward to continuing to learn from all of you. There's so much to learn! If any of you are interested, I'm slowly organizing the photos of specimens I've collected here: www.flickr.com/photos/76363052@N05/collections/72157639281201473/ If you do take a look and notice any errors I've made, please correct me!

Hello, most of you on here already know me but for those who don't I am Dunc, 49 years old from Yorkshire, England, I have been collecting seriously for around 30 years and my main interests are papilionidae and nymphalidae although I do tend to "rarity chase" as well, there admitted it. My son Robski has also joined the forum too so he will post from time to time, lets make this forum a success, no arguments or name calling and enjoy together the greatest of all hobbies.

Hi all. I am Maurizio Bollino from Lecce, in Southern (better, South-eastern) Italy: practically, in clear winter mornings I see the mountains of Albania from my working table. I am studying and collecting worldwide Papilionidae for more than 35 years (I am 58), and about 15 years ago I started collecting and studying andean Pieridae, with a special interest to Catasticta and Leodonta. Presently I am working also on other groups: I am writing a taxonomical note on greek Pygopleurus (Coleoptera, Glaphyridae), and am also interested to taxonomy of Pachyrhynchines (Coleoptera, Curculionidae, Entiminae). I forgot .... I studied also the afrotropical Euphaedra (Lepidoptera, Nymphalidae) for a while.
