The mounting pose is unnatural. It is a standardized way to be able to better compare specimens. In some Lycaenidae the forewing shoulder is so enlarged that you even run into trouble when trying to set them at 90°.

Thank you for the IDs Adam. Yes the Nymphalid was up at the viewpoint.
I wonder who will be the first one to spot the Delias in the mountain view picture (unless I am mistaken and it is a different genus of Pieridae).

I do remember meeting you Peter, you are now a "handshake neighbor" of Adam (...and not more than 4 handshakes away from a former President of the United States).

It was only a short visit to Chiang Mai and I didn't have any proper equipment to go out collecting, but I was able to take a few nice pictures with my phone and see some butterflies:

It was amazing meeting Adam in person after having met 10 years ago on insectnet. His collection room, the collection itself, and his knowledge are without one of a kind. I really enjoyed visiting the farm where he is breeding many different Papilios and different lines of P. memnon. Like always time was too short.
Here are a few pics that I took during that day:

Frankfurt had always been the main fair I visited. Some other German fairs already got discontinued. Munich still exists, but it was a huge waste of time.

Advocacy journalism in all it's 'glory'. It's a movie for their biased August story on butterfly collectors. I would simply ignore it, as already said it is nothing more than advocacy journalism. In the comments of the movie there is a lot of outrage, but also some people that do understand very well that these people rely on the butterfly trade.
What would interest me a lot more, and what has been itching me for the past few years is the 'felt' break down of butterfly trade in Europe and if any of this had an impact to these towns in Indonesia or if the possible rise of trade in China is making up for it.
I used to be one of the final dealers in this long string of people, would sell on insect fairs, but last year was probably one of my last insect fairs for a long time to come as visitor numbers have been so low that it's not worth anymore standing around a table for a whole day.

Hi, thank you all for your kind and extensive replies When I make my way to Chiang Mai I will definitely follow up on that invitation Adam! Paul, this is the first time I am in Thailand, if I like it, it won't be the last time. I am currently living out of a carry-on (as Luxembourg is a huge waste of money) and I am pretty much location independent as long as I have Internet. Having said that, I am also not exclusively interested in Lycaenidae. Some big game butterflies live in the field would also be nice as I can't really work much on my Lycaenidae collection atm. I would also be honored to meet Yutaka Inayoshi, I have used his website for many years now. How about cars? Will it be easy to get a rental car in Bangkok and drive out the required 100km to the closest places? I will get to Thailand the 18th of September and I still have to book a flight out of the country. I want to head to Japan afterwards.

Hi, later this month I will head to Thailand for the first time in my life and I plan on staying in Bangkok for a full month. I wanted to ask if anyone has good recommendations for localities situated around Bangkok. I may also travel up to Chiang Mai/Chiang Rai, but this has not been planned yet. I'm thankful for any information.

Looks like a caterpillar of Prolimacodes badia (Hübner, 1822). They have a weird shape.
