Stichophthalma louisa mathilda if you prefer, I thought I had finally got hold of 2 females from Laos, sadly it turns out I have only got one and a half, the right side of this specimen pictured below being male... Very disappointed, Rich

I do feel for you, sometimes it is so annoying when we do not find what we want in our packages Pity about the little thing of a snapped antennae as that would have been a different size to the males. You can see how with some species where both sexes are similar how these things get passed on

lol, you poor thing Rich, you must be gutted, well at least you spotted it, I have had a gynandro Corsican swallowtail for 10 years and it took someone else who saw it for the first time to point it out to me, poor observation Dunc, really poor.

Yes it is a shame about that antennae, as you say it should have been longer than the males in a true bilateral.
very nice Dunc, I have neither male nor female of that, let alone both in one specimen, hopefully now it's been downgraded it might become available ex-pupae soon.
"should have gone to spec savers" !!

I know what you mean Dunc, I had to start wearing glasses a year ago, getting constant headaches, you don't realise how much your eyes have been straining over the years untill you've had glasses for a while and your eyes have fully relaxed from the constant straining to focus, all my data labels are just a blur now without them, headaches long gone, add to that the fact I can't wear contacts due to my dry eye syndrome, which is apparently common in over 60's my doctor took pleasure in announcing, this is a result of years of closes up work, office folk get it from constant computer work etc, I guess mine is from setting 30-40 thousand specimens over 40 years, this time of year is a killer for me, central heating etc dries the air and without drops my eye lids can stick to the eye ball so contacts could be very difficult to remove, strangely in a cool breeze my eyes run like a tap.
Rich.
P.S when's Newark show
