Splendid images Jan ! This Euphydryas phaeton chrysalid is a piece of Art !
I have caught Argyreus hyperbius in West Papua, a fast flyer.

Euphydryas phaeton is in my opinion one of the most beautiful Checkerspots. It is found also in south eastern Canada. I have looked for this species for a long time, but because is very localized and not common i haven't got the luck yet. I found though Euphudryas chalcedona and E.gilletti which is another beautiful species in front range of Rocky Mountains in Alberta.

Magnificent rearing results, very tricky to get them to pair in a cage, try hand pairing them, I thought you said all the male cybele died before the females emerged though, I would love to get a hold of some of these larvae next year, I've almost finished my greenhouse ready for next year, it's 10ft x 8ft aluminium and glass, inside I have built a timber frame that fits the internal dimensions very well, I will line the whole thing with parasite proof netting during the winter ( whilst all the pests are hibernating ) so hopefully next year it will be a completely pest free courtship and egg laying enclosure, these fritillaries would look great in there.

Marvellous array of images, thank you for sharing. Some very successful breeding, the best way of obtaining perfect specimens and to study the life history of the butterflies themselves. A very nice photographic record to cherish as well.
