Nice specimens Dave, from Ba Na mountain? I've got a few from Bato mountain, Quang Ngai province and Kon Ka Kinh, Gai Lai province, the former have a lighter ground colour and the later have reduced white on the hindwing margins, I'll post photos when set. Those from Kon Tum and Da Nang provinces look pretty much the same though there is quite some variation in markings. I was a little confused with the specimens I have of howqua iapetus and suffusa tonkiniana on my website, but with the new material I have recieved I'm pretty sure those are all howqua iapetus from Sa Pa mountain, tonkiniana is quite different and quite a bit bigger. I've also got a few specimens with insectsale data labels on them which is Kanchanburi province, Thailand, but they look very similar to the sparta specimens I have from Kachin state, Myanmar, I'm pretty sure they don't occur in Thailand so I'm thinking the data is the dealer location, they came with a few nominate louisa.

No, Stichophthalma sparta does not occur in Thailand. If these sparta are about 10 years old I think I know where Insectsale.com got them from. Let's say a well known Chinese W Malaysian dealer ('Mr. W') with 'a bit of a reputation' took a large number of butterflies and insects from a dealer here in Chiang Mai and never paid for them. He sold at least some of them on to Insectsale.com who is blameless for the lack of payment by the Malaysian dealer. Most of the material that the Malaysian didn't pay for was from Kachin State, Burma, but the Thai seller didn't tell me exactly what was in the consignment other than the total value that he was not paid was about 30,000 US$!

The specimens from "Kanchanaburi province" are from 2012, if any of the data can be believed, doesn't mean they haven't sat around for a while untill the heat dies down and then re packed, new date stamp and then moved on, I should add I didn't get them direct from insectsale but from a seller in Europe via ebay, they came with the afore mentioned louisa nominate in an insectsale poly bag with there very noticeable label on.

Very nice specimens Dave, all from the same location? The bottom left is lighter. The bottom right I think you may have beaten me to it, I do recall the distinctive white dots inside the hindwing black markings, can't recall if I placed a bid, I've had quite a few recently.

Hi Rich All from same locality again (Ba Na Mountain) Here's a close up photo of the paler specimen. Will post a close up of the one I "beat you to" next. Apologies for that !! I think there were a couple of those dark ones with small white spots. Dave Attachments:

Nice specimen Dave, I've recently recieved a few Eamsei from Gai Lai province and they have little or no white inside of the black markings only the sub marginal white, not set them out yet, hopefully next year Dang will have uemurai s.sp gailai as he never went there untill June, uemurai has finished by May.
