Is that really miokensis listed in the top 100 insect auctions? Doesn't look any different to my urvilleanus males, certainly doesn't look like specimens I've seen from Ulu island. rich

Looks like Urvillianus to me too. My guess is considering that their are 25 bids so far on it and it has only gotten to $162 pretty much says the buyers regard it as an Urvillianus.

Rich and others,
Although the butterfly was named after D'Urville it is actually called urvillianus, not urvilleanus. This is a common error, and similar to Parnassius hunnyngtoni, named after Hannyngton and often misspelt hannyngtoni. The spelling in the original description cannot be subsequently changed to agree with the spelling of the name of the person it was named after.
Adam.

My apologies Adam, the curse of predictive text, spell it wrong once and it predicts the wrong spelling every time, they also prefer American spellings of some words. urvillianus should now hopefully be in the iPads predictive dictionary.

Rich,
It wasn't just you, Olivier spelt it wrongly too but I corrected it in his post. I didn't want to wade in and correct yours too, as I thought an explanation would be more useful.
I hate predictive text, and have it switched off on my mobile and in Microsoft Office. This PC luckily doesn't have it for general typing, so I don't have that annoying problem. It thinks it knows better than we do what we want to type.
Adam.

O. priamus miokensis seems to range from blue to green, due to O. priamus bornemanni meeting O. priamus urvillianus on the Duke of York Islands.

Very nice indeed. Rarely seen in collections, a real stand out natural hybrid, and never really very affordable. I once had an opportunity about 12 or so years ago to purchase a real nice one from a collection. But the asking price was $1200.00
