Where can I get a decent, adjustable and flat spreading board that will work for most Lepidoptera (from Heliconius size to large Saturniidae)? I am looking for the longest lasting option, perhaps balsa.

It would help if you state which country or region you live in, eg UK, EU, USA, or maybe even somewhere in Asia or Australia.

Sorry I cannot answer your question well myself, hopefully a US based member can. I remember there was a supplier called Bioquip which was sold recently, perhaps the new owner has what you are looking for.
Adam.

Fabricate your own boards and use balsa wood. I designed and self-constructed over 100 lineal feet of balsa wood spreading boards. Though I have used insect spreading boards for over 60 years, I do not own a commercially made board. I was never satisfied with the cost, materials used, or size and dimensions. Also, component sizes are not standardized, causing specimens placed on different batches of boards to be pinned at different heights and angles. The non-adjustable boards described here are the result of my own pinning technique. Balsa boards allow the holding down of both antennae and all four wings of most moths (wingspan to 8 cm) with only two insect pins and two light cardboard pieces. I have made additional hundreds of balsa wood board's since my initial batch fabricated a half century ago, all out of balsa wood. Now a half century later, all of my boards are still in use, despite having spread far more than one million insect specimens. Freely accessible link to my 1993 publication how to do it yourself regarding spreading boards. I have published more than a dozen other free how to publications useful to entomologist. www.academia.edu/31118948/CONSTRUCTING_NON_ADJUSTABLE_INSECT_SPREADING_BOARDS
