Hello, I would like to know the status of parides hahneli and parides ascanius, how rare they are in nature and in collections. Best regards Michal

Parides ascanius is very rare in collections and extremely local in nature occuring only in coastal swamps around Rio de Janiero, its habitat is under intense developmental and is shrinking rapidly, it is now almost impossible to obtain on the market, I have not seen a specimen for sale in years and even then, going back 30 years it was stupidly expensive. As for hahneli, easier to obtain for a reasonable price on the market, in the wild again very local, found in only a few areas of the Amazon amongst the sandy riverbanks in central Brazil, I can remember in the 1980's when hahneli was £8 a pair!
