While looking at the Butterflies of India to see recent pictures of this species in the wild, I noticed that they appear to show a dead male from Assam 2009? photographed by Kedar Tokekar and the page says of this species that it "is legally protected in India under Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972." I am a little bemused to say the least. See here www.ifoundbutterflies.org/sp/915/Papilio-elephenor

If one comes across dead specimen as on the photo it is a pity it should be left for ants for a food, that is very expensive dinner for ants.
