It would help quite a bit, if you told us which desert you went to and where. Haha my apologies, this was in a desert in Ras Al Khaimah, Dubai. Not very certain about the name of the desert though..apologies!

I afraid from these lightshot photos (which do not enlarge when I click on them) and only one very small image only of the insects you have shown, its going to be very hard to ID them. Someone here may with luck put your beetles to genus?

Is there any way that I could make a photo that you can zoom in to? Sorry for the inconvenience.
