Going to take some flowers (the day !!), it was flying around. And this sphingid is lucky as these are the only flowers in the vicinity. incredible early for the season (we had very bad weather until now, it is the first sunny day in Belgium)

Wow!!! Here all is covered with snow and must forget about any insects for at least another two months. I hate Canadian winter.

Last Friday (Feb. 8) I observed Pieris rapae, Phoebis sennae eubule, and Eurema daira flying across the lawn of our house on the coast of Georgia, USA. A good start! jh

Quite mild here at the moment for February, saw my first butterfly yesterday, a Brimstone Gonepteryx rhamni in an urban cemetery. However, I saw my first hoverfly the common Marmalade Episyrphus balteatus on 1 January in a farmland drove. Some interesting Diptera yesterday and. 3 species of common hoverflies and lots of honey bees and a Queen bumble bee at crocus flowers. So out and about with the camera. Last year because of the bad weather, these did not appear until April.

Very mild here in the mountains of eastern Tennessee, but no hopes of seeing anything flying. Rain, rain, rain. The 10-day forecast shows rain every single day, and cloud cover approaching 100% daily. Oh well, it's better than snow! jh

Still buried in snow here in Colorado... We have over 100% snowpack this year, so the butterflies in high altitudes should be very good this July. I can't wait! High altitude butterflies are my favorite. Erebia magdalena, Oeneis bore... Aww, I want to hike those passes... First however, I'll spend a month in Peru with students... I can't wait for those jungle species! It will be overwhelming to see them again!

After the wintering species (Gonepteryx rhamni, Aglais io), I even see a new generation species : Pararge aegeria tircis, yesterday in Frehel, Brittany, France.
Crazy 18°C in February !
