My 4th trip to Koh Phiphi has been successful with a perfect weather. It enabled me to add some new species to the checklist of butterflies from that island. The most striking addition is the huge Bassarona teuta. In my former trips in end-December, Bassarona dunya was common but I never seen any B. teura. This year I found no B. dunya and saw 2 females of B. teuta, I guess the season was somewhat earlier or later than the usual. Bassarona teuta is a forestry species, a HUGE butterfly. First fresh female attracted by one of my baits (banana+beer) : IMG_1450 IMG_1445 And another female one day later doing a bath of sun (unfortunately not as fresh as the previous one) : IMG_1571 Anyone could confirm which ssp flies in Phiphi ?

According to Yutaka Inayoshi and Kimura’s “The Buttrrlflies of Thailand” it is ssp.goodrichi.
