Hello! I need help identifying this butterfly from Equador. Sorry for the poor pictures, the bug is a friends and these are the only pictures I have.

It look like either a satyr or a Rhodinidae. Can you give us an idea on the size?

I would think it is an inch or less in wingspan. I searched all over the Butterflies of America site and couldn't find it. I don't know if it a nymphalid of rhodinid.

I was told the specimen had incorrect data and that it is Powellana cottoni, a Riodinid from Cent. Africa.

It's Powellana cottoni all right, but that's an African Lycaenid, not a Riodinid. See D'Abrera's Africotropical book, it's in there. jh
