I shall put your mind at ease (specialed) by letting you know you have a insect called a firebrat in your pictures. You do NOT have some bizarre hybrid before you. Centipedes are not insects and belong to an altogether different class. Firebrats and silverfish are insects (as you can see they have 3 sets/pairs of legs). Togather they formerly belonged to the order Thysanura. However, that name has been dropped and changed (as of the late 90's) and it is now the order Zygentoma. The order Zygentoma has 5 families associated with it. The 3 long caudal filaments present on the tail end distinguish this primitive order from all others. Silverfish and firebrats though similar in appearance live in different environment situations. Whereas, silverfish prefer damp, dark, and cool places to live their lives; firebrats on the other hand prefer areas where rather hot and dry surroundings are to be had. Examples are bakeries and near boilers or furnaces. The common firebrat is Thermobia domestica. It has a cosmopolitan distribution for the most part as it is largely associated with humans and / or their dwellings. Silverfish are so called because of the silvery glitter of the scales covering the bodies of the most conspicuous species (family Lepismatidae).
