I recently bought 'The Complete Field Guide to Butterflies of Australia' by Michael F. Braby. A new Edition has just been published. I have the 3rd edition of Butterflies of the Australian Region by Bernard D'Abrera but wanted an up to date perspective on Australia's butterflies. This is an informative book by Australia's top butterfly expert with excellent plates of set specimens of all the species with maps showing the distribution, with different coloured areas for the subspecies. Unlike the big table book which covers a much greater area, their are notes on behaviour, habitat, status and larvae foodplants. This guide even has an excellent chapter on collecting, preparing and storage of specimens!!. If I lived down under this would never leave my rucksuck. Well worth the money.

Thanks a lot, Peter.
I will buy it, I agree that Braby is doing a fantastic work on the lepidoptera of the Australasian area.

I have the 3rd edition which is a great book - if only we can get easily a permit to collect (ex Brisbane county) and to export...
