O victoriae from Ghizo= western province Solomon (I have been there) is the subspecie "rubianus" and the form ghizoensis is described on Haugum and Low book as a form of female. This specimen seems a ssp victoriae

I sent Lunkov a message on Ebay asking where I could get a copy of the paper describing this new ssp. His reply was "Scientific describing this sub-species not yet/ The document is on consideration in the biological Institute." Pfft.

Gullible, stupid, lacking in knowledge ? I just don't know, but someones making good money out of them. I'm tempted to expose a few victoriae to UV and sell them on ebay. I could put the dollars to good use.

It's not a bad price for this sub species, it's rarer than the alexandrae that occur in India (or was it Africa) anyway rare stuff... Rich Keep an eye out for sub species britainensis (just waiting for the new spray gun to arrive)

I could put the dollars to good use. For UV modified specimens, some collectors know they are modified and are paying huge prices for them. Sellers are writing in the description that the specimens are UV modified and they sell it for more than 200 USD. So I gues many collectors are just attracted by beauty. For fake ssp, it is a different story... pure greed for most of them...

Total poppycock. As previously noted, Ghizo is in Western province- in fact, right in the middle and rubianus is the unique ssp. It's also the local hub for movement of goods- so most everything from Western Province, Choisul, and Bougainville goes through Gizo. Who knows where this actually came from.

The amount being offered for this fake subspecies is quite low, whether any Ornithoptera collectors who believe they know their stuff are bidding and want a cheap new subspecies I don't know. More likely someone will hang it on their wall in one of those riker mounts for one of those living room wall to wall displays.

I have moderated my last post, wherever people choose to place their bugs is certainly up to them. Beautiful and magnificent Ornithoptera are indeed.

I am surely not an Ornithoptera specialist but when I see that all the species are farmered and hybrid easily done as forms are surely selected, what is the credibility of the new stuff that come on the market ?
