Hello. My name is Jerry, I am from Massachusetts originally, living in NC. I have always had an affinity for moths and butterflies since I was a little girl. I recently found a perfect specimen of a Tuliptree Silkmoth and wish to make sure that I've preserved her correctly! This is brand new for me.

Hi folks, my name is Adolfo and I trained originally in Biochemistry at Uni working very briefly in hospital pathology services before further training in high school Science/Maths teaching followed by practicing in the profession for 8 years.
In 1988 after those first 10 years I started a new technical career in IT which I've enjoyed tremendously.
Never having lost my curiosity, interest and passion for insect collecting I find myself immersed in the hobby after my retirement from the workforce.
With a bit of luck I hope to continue this enjoyable pursuit a while longer and perhaps pass the passion on to one of our grandchildren should they be interested.
In any case in joining this forum I know I'll be among fellow enthusiasts and hope to help other members in any way I can.

Hi, I am a lifelong Lepidoptera fan, now volunteering at Portsmouth City Museum’s Natural History Museum (UK). One job is helping with the curation of the insect collections. During the COVID-19 lockdown I am researching the collectors named on the labels. Most date from the early 20th century. I hope this forum may help with some of the more obscure names - most are moth collectors.

Hi everyone, my name's Evan. I'm new here, from the Western United States, and I'm 26. I've had several insect collections in the past, my first one my brother fed to my pet meal worms when I was 10, destroying it. The second was very carefully curated was done as a high school project, and the teacher accidentally threw them all away. I collect seeds and other stable genetic materials such as spores, sclerotia, and cryptobiotic eggs. I'm an amateur scientist who enjoys microscopy(though I'm still learning), and I have three pet Gromphadorhina portentosa. I like collecting natural specimens for observation, and now that I have some free time and plan to travel once this pandemic is over I figured I might as well collect and study as many different types of organisms as possible in my journey. So this will be my third collection, and I hope the third time's the charm! I can't wait to start reading from and learning what these forums have to hold!

Hello to All! My name is Jack and I've been collecting butterflies for about 4, maybe 5, years now. I love seeing all the different varieties and types, though it can be a little overwhelming at some times I love reading through all the different posts and I'm a big fan of Ornithoptera, Parides, and Morpho butterflies. I can't wait to see and read all the knowledge each one of you has! -Jasm

Thank you so much for the welcome I live in Texas, USA and have been interested in entomology since I was very young. It was always just a fascination and hobby of mine, but the last 7 years I've also worked in the pest control industry. When I grew up loving them I never thought I'd end up helping to "control" them, but I also learned its an important life saving industry for many people. The love of bugs has also been passed onto my 4 children. I'm a single father that integrates nature and the study of bugs and other critters into their homeschooling. It's soemthing we enjoy doing together 😄

Hi! I'm Leah (20), I'm not a serious collector as I am more interested in overall natural history but recently I've found myself interested in the identification of several butterflies that I was given to mount. Looking forward to learning more about entomology

Hi
I think I posted my introduction in the wrong place so I'll copy and paste here from that thread I created.
"Hi,
I wanted to introduce myself before I post in the identification thread.
Brief history so you know why I'm here seeking help and will try to be as concise as possible
In august of this year, Fleamaggedon, as we've been calling it, had begun. It was an infestation on whole other level with supposed fleas so we thought. I'm pretty sure it was fleas to some extent, although both my cats are vet script treated as wel as both where a flea collar well before so we are bit baffled at the severity.
From day one and utilizing my own pest treatments and seeing hercules looking type fleas, I had suspected then that we had another bug or bugs at issue. All are small bugs. Nothing like water bugs, roaches, or the like.
Fast forwarding to today, many treatments later, including 6 professional sprayings set up by my apartment complex managers, the fleas have been minimized GREATLY but we're still having issues or I'm still having issues. The fleas and whatever other bug or bugs just love me. We've all been bit but they love to swarm me and house inside my clothes everyday, in my hair, and can feel the creepy crawlies esp at night and it's been maddening to say the least. I now truly believe we had and have more than one bug infestation. It's not bed bugs thankfully as we've never seen tell tale signs or bed bugs.
The exterminators never fully inspected our apartment despite the front office saying they have and supposedly it revealed nothing. It's been a living hell here esp for me.
We are moving out on Dec 8th into a much nicer apartment with full amenitiesin unit including full size washer and dryer. All fabric type objects in current apt have been thrown out, couches, curtains, fake plants, 99% of clothing -- don't get me started on this one and these mother effers just don't die as the water and dryers at various laundrymats just don't get hot enough.
Leaving out many details, this has been my ordeal and living hell these past 4 months.
I'll be heading over to the identification thread in hopes someone can confirm i.d. of small dead bug that fell off one of my cats. Flea, black carpet beetle, another bug entirely?
It's great meeting everyone and thank you in advance for any guidance and help
Angie"
