I found two larvae of Ceruchus piceus today. I would love to breed this species. Can someone give some information on raising Lucanidae? Thanks, Tim

Over 500 members on this forum and yet not even one person has experience raising Lucanidae??? Only two views in six months. This is why I think it is a good idea to be part of a forum specific about breeding insects. i have to admit, this rearing section is not the most active. Not that I don't like collecting just as much but there is way more out there about collecting than raising. I like breeding Lepidoptera the most but I might enjoy Coleoptera as well except no one ever describes rearing them. If you can reference a good method for Lucanidae please do. Thanks, Tim

I know very little about keeping Lucanidae, and decided to edit the subject line to help attract the attention of anyone who may be able to give advice. I must admit that I had no idea what type of insect Ceruchus piceus actually is, probably because I am half way round the world from the USA. I hope I have at least helped a little.
Adam.

Thanks, Tim A quick Google search for "Stag beetle breeding" or "Stag beetle rearing" produces many results, including the two Web sites below: www.exotic-pet-shop.co.uk/page_2429644.htmlwww.asahi-net.or.jp/~wp5k-tnd/siiku.htmAs you mentioned, I think you'd be better off with the many Forums and Web sites dedicated to beetle rearing/breeding.

I would highly recommend this book, Jonathan is one of the most knowledgeable beetle breeders around!
