This is a unique ssp. of P.plantaginis, in which both males and females have red hindwings. Moreover it's unique by its ecology. While all other sspp. of P.plantaginis are inhabitants of plains and low mountains, living on the tall-grass meadows, this ssp. is a true alpine dweller. It inhabits the low-grass sedge alpine meadows of Caucasus at the elevation ca. 2400 m. Males are flying during day very fast just above the ground, in ziczac manner, difficult to catch.
