Adam, since the emergence of that female memnon the other day, I was wondering if your favourite Papilio had changed at all !!

It's tough...I really love the whole family Papilionidae..but my favourites could be: African region:Papilio pelodorus European region: Iphiclides podalirius;Papilio alexanor American region: Papilio indra Asian-Indoaustralian region: Papilio lampsacus, all the birdwings, Cressida cressida.. PS: Is Cressida cressida related to the Parnassius group? Cressida cressida belongs to the tribe Troidini in subfamily Papilioninae, not subfamily Parnassiinae, so it is related to the birdwings and other Aristolochia-feeding species. Braby et al. (2005) in DNA studies have suggested that it could be the sister of all the Troidini other than Battus and Pharmacophagus or sister to ( Euryades + Parides) and ( Troides + Ornithoptera), depending on the analytical method, Maximum Likelihood or Bayesian Inference. Adam. PS. Note the correct spelling of the African species Papilio pelodurus; pelodorus is an incorrect subsequent spelling attributable to Carcasson (1960).
