does anyone have a female of podalirinus ? Manfred Sadly I don't. I have seen a few specimens in the NHM, London, but don't know of any in private collections. Adam.

Welcome to the forum, Jens. That is a great way to introduce yourself with your first post. Do you still have the specimen data? I am sure all of us would like to know more about such a rare butterfly.
Adam.

Does anyone know what is the total known area where this species exists?

It definitely flies at Batang, in the Yangtze valley bordering Sichuan and Tibet and as far south as the traditional collecting locality of A-tun-tse in the northernmost part of the Mekong valley in Yunnan. Apparently the modern specimens sold by Chinese dealers come from somewhere much further north in the Mekong valley at Chamdo (= Qamdo). However, the name 'Chamdo' also refers to the whole region of eastern Tibet from Qinghai in the north to Yunnan in the south. It is quite likely that (unless anyone has more precise data from the Chinese suppliers) the data 'Chamdo' may actually be somewhere in the south, rather than near the town in the north. I am attaching a map to illustrate the problem of 'Chamdo'. Adam.

If I am not wrong, Robert Westphal has collecting them. If he's reading us, he may tell us more about it.

The locality that Chinese sellers give is Chengdu which surely can't be right, if only they would be more precise when selling rare material, it is so frustrating.
