Does anyone know where I can buy some cheap empty display frames in the UK as I have a few friends who have asked if I can put together something pretty to go on the wall? I don't want to spend too much and for the moment I just need a few frames about 15cm square.

Do you mean Watkins & Doncaster? If so that's rather more than I wanted to spend. They're not for entomologists, they're just pretty things for friends to hang on their wall.

If you have IKEA store in UK you could try there. I bought in Canada for $10 so called shadow boxes good for one large butterfly . They have few sizes available . You would have to cut the pin and mount specimen to the bottom . You can try also dollar stores ( I guess in UK 1 pound stores or so ) . I bough for 1 dollar wood cases . They are about 12x18 cm and about 3 cm deep ,but still big enough for gifts. I have made many of them for friends of mine and also for my self to hung on the walls some double specimen ( without worry about fading on the daylight ) . Those shadow frames/cases have slide in glass so you would have to seal them with clear silicone after mounting specimen. In this case no need to treat with chemicals. Unfortunately I don't have a pictures of them available as they are stored back in Canada now.

IKEA are the best and easiest for a quick display. I have been using them in the past. They also ship.

Lawrence frames makes shallow shadow box frames with removable glass. They are quite nice. They are called "treasure boxes." White, black and brown colors. That is what I have been using for beetles. I think they are about 0.7 inches deep.
