Hi folks, going through my beetle collection from East Java and found this specimen which I believe is a species of Anomala genus in Coleoptera > Scarabaeoidea > Rutelidae family. However there are 1280 spp as per EOL www.catalogueoflife.org/col/browse/tree/id/a10b013cf21bf9de73496b2b2d96b88eThese are my pics: 1. 2. 3. 4. This last pic is from PinIt and labeled Anomala species. It looks very similar to my specimen. Any help in identifying the species would be greatly appreciated. Cheers .. Adolfo

Hi Adolfo,
Yes - Anomala is s huge genus and the species can be difficult. Even for the relatively small fauna in the U.S., many of our species must be examined in-hand to get an accurate ID.
I have a colleague that specializes on Scarabaeidae and has recently been studying Asian Anomala - I don't believe he is on ICF, but I will forward to him a link to this page and see if he might be able to provide some assistance.
Cheers! Bandrow

Greetings,
I am happy to report a quick response from my friend Paul Lago. He in turn contacted Carsten Zorn and below is the thread including Carsten's reply. Please note the request for the full collection data if possible.
"Bob, I sent the link to Carsten Zorn in Germany. He is THE Anomala man for Europe and Asia. Here is his response:
The photos are showing Callistethus irrorellus (Laporte, 1839). I know this species only from Mt. Argopuro in Eastern Java, but I expect that it occurs on other mountains too. The species in the photo at the bottom should be different: C. tigrinus (Nonfried, 1906), known from Sumatra, Borneo, and Peninsula Malaysia. Is it possible to receive the full collecting data?
Interesting that the photos represent two species. Any chance of getting the collecting data? Paul"

Thank you so very much Bob and please forward my thanks to Paul and Carsten. For C.irrorellus (i.e. the first 4 specimen photos) I confirm the handwritten label looks very much like Argapur but guess it must be rather Argopuro for Mount Argopuro in East Java. The last photo seems to have come from the internet seller insect-trade.eu according to the pic watermark but I'm guessing it must be mislabelled or misidentified. All the very best regards from Australia .. Adolfo
