Hmm. A thousand books in 20 years = one per week...

Come on man! Share some of those reviews! john Message me your email, and I will send them. John Tennent said share them widely. Tell John the books aren’t that bad. That will get him going. He can be gullible sometimes, and one must take advantage of that to rile him. Chuck

John wants the reviews shared as widely as possible so if anybody wants them pm Peter or me and we can email them.
John's review of Mark Payne's next offering - the Canaries - will also be published soon and is evidently even more scathing!

I told a friend in Malta about the books and sent him the reviews. He just e-mailed to say that the Maltese Islands volume advertised on Pendlebury Books hasn't been published yet. The cover photo of P. machaon seems somewhat familiar, but maybe it just looks like another photo I have seen somewhere. If it conforms to previous photos I expect that he didn't take the photo himself, other than "taking" it off the internet or from another publication.
Adam.

I have sent you them Adam. Thank you very much. Oh dear! What a disaster, and worryingly more such "books" (I hesitate to call them works) will probably be published soon. I just posted a link to this thread on Insectnet. The more of us that see this information the better. Adam. Thanks nomad for sharing the reviews, it is extremely informative and a worth savings not buying those "books". I left a post on actias.de Xavier

The thing is, these reviews will not be widely read by many interested in butterflies, and those that are interested in the butterflies of these places and others that are covered by Payne will think Oh good someone has published a book on these islands, places, and as many buy books such as these from Pemberley in the UK (and widely in the world) a reputable dealer, they will read the booksellers glowing reviews and think jolly good, and buy them.

they will read the booksellers glowing reviews and think jolly good, and buy them. Sadly you are right, and of course that's why booksellers write "glowing reviews" - they want to sell as many books as they can regardless of the quality of the contents, of which in this case they are none-the-wiser. Adam.

I believe that NHBS have already removed his books from their listings, hopefully Pemberley and others will follow suit.

Let's see if Pemberley is a serious bookshop or not.

200-300 pages for each small islands .... how much for the continent ? pages and books ? and what budget you will spend for all the world collection ? Is there any" good price" for those that subcript for the all collection ? if he doesn't sell some at the beginnings, the project will stop quickly.
