Looks like a longhorn beetle of some sort.

Any information about the location of the subject in the painting, such as which part of the world it was painted in, would really help. As nomad said, this must be a longhorn beetle (family Cerambycidae), and probably some of our members can give a better possible identification, especially with an indication of origin. Adam.
