This is not an insect, but a fennec (called "Souf", from the name of an algerian oasis in the desert) who lived at home when I worked in Algeria (1972-1974) as a professor at the University of Constantine. I had bought it in the Sahara and he had become a very charming and mischievous companion. The problem was that he was a burrowing animal: so every night he scratched a door trying to dig a burrow there. The neighbors ended up complaining about the noise. So, I installed a big pile of sand on the terrace and the nocturnal disturbance ended.
