Jensb, I think your choice of SWEAR WORD in your post of 8 hours ago was VERY MUCH un-necessary and certainly inappropriate for this GENTLEMEN'S forum. I don't like playing the language police around here. And I'm sure if Admin. sees that post they will be quick to say something of it.

Whitin the Eu countries they dont look through the package as far as I know. If I would send from the netherlands to germany or to spain or itallie it shouldnt be a problem. Or am I wrong on this matter. grz jens Within the EU (at least the Shengen Zone, and I think outside it too) CITES permits are not needed for transport of specimens between countries. However, if a collection is subsequently inspected and you don't have a CITES registration for specimens theoretically they could be confiscated. Adam.

Question to Adam Do I need Cites permit when I move my collection from Canada to Thailand ? Technically it is not trading but the specimens are moving between two countries . Customs my think it is not personal belongings but rather for resale.

Customs my think it is not personal belongings but rather for resale. Paul It is very difficult to correctly import a collection to Thailand nowadays. To start with Thai customs will certainly treat it as 'not personal belongings'. I had to pay import duty on mine in 1981, there were no CITES or import permits needed in those days. There is a serious flaw in Thai import requirements - they require a CITES office paper from the exporting country stating that the specimens listed are NOT covered by CITES before they will issue an import permit (which must be applied for before the collection arrives at port). Of course, local CITES offices in most countries will only issue permits for CITES listed species but not for any other non-listed species, so you cannot obtain the required documents anyway. As you are planning on moving to Laos, I would recommend that you ship the collection directly there when you are ready, then it would only pass through Thailand and not have to go through customs clearance here. Adam.

Thanks Adam We are not sure yet about Laos - expensive country to live and not as easy as Thailand . Maybe at the end we stay here. It is strange why they make such problems to bring in insects but collecting inside the country is permitted .

It is strange why they make such problems to bring in insects but collecting inside the country is permitted . If it's anything like D.R. Congo, customs is all about setting up a climate where it makes more sense to pay the official a bribe rather than jump through the official hoops.

Shipping agents can 'arrange' things for you here.

Well, eBay must have ended his auction, because it ended prematurely today.

More easy to pay direct " fee" to officials or indirectly to the agent then going thru all those non-sense papers, permits and licensing . I respect cites for protected species and regulating trade of those but rather then that it is only bureaucracy . USA is not better ! Friend of mine waited 4 months for customs to clear his collected insects from F. Guiana. List of specimens! It is almost impossible to identify 100% of moth species collected in tropics .There is not enough material with pictures of those available . Unless the list looks like: Noctuidae moth #1, #2, ....

Maybe he sold it earlier to the highest bidder just in case someone bidding change his mind . Titanus giganteus ssp hugeus is still for sale

It says the auction was ended by the seller due to an error in the listing.

It says the auction was ended by the seller due to an error in the listing. Principally that is always given as reason, if the seller ended the auction prematurely (for whatever reason) Manfred
