Why are stag beetles on the internet so expensive?

A while ago I looked through eBay for some stag beetle specimens, and was very surprised to see only $100-$1000 stag beetles! There is a lady in this forum who found so many stag beetles in one of her trips that could easily be hundreds of dollars each on eBay. Do you know why stag beetles on the internet are so expensive?

There are all kinds of prices on www.ebay.com for stag beetles. From hundreds of dollars as you say to a 5 USD bug : www.collector-secret.com/insect/coleoptera/lucanus/
Not all stag beetles are expensive.

Of course the rarest species and larger specimens commend a high price as stag beetles are very popular among collectors.
